William Roberts, Jr.
William Roberts, Jr., a brother of James M. Roberts, was born in Virginia in 1808. He was one of the five brothers who came to the county in 1820. He with the other brothers helped to clear the farm; had the same privileges and advantages that other boys had in the wild woods: about all the education he received was before he was twelve years of age. He lived at home with his father till he was thirty years of age, then married Miss Jane Gilfillen in the year 1838, by whom he had four children. He died in 1852. His widow still lives on the old homestead with her son, Winfield S. The Gilfillens came to the county in 1832; they came from Ireland, Mrs. Roberts being born in Ireland in 1810.
