Thomas Holmes, Sr.

Thomas Holmes (Sen.) was born in Ireland in 1748; he lived on his native isle until he grew to manhood, and married Margaret Henderson, by whom he had four children—two sons and two daughters. She then died. He remained single for several years, then married Jane Miller about 1800, and immediately sailed for the United States with his wife and two daughters (leaving his sons to inherit his estate), and shortly afterward located in Harrison County, O. They remained in this county until 1826, when they came to Shelby County and located in Orange Township on land that had been settled on by Abram Minnear. Mr. Holmes died in 1831.
