John G. Berning
John G. Berning, son of John H. and Mary E. Berning, was born in Germany February 13, 1826, and raised a farmer. On April 18, 1850, he married Benedacia. daughter of Henry Gerkison; she was born in 1830. Their children are Elizabeth, Mary, John Henry, Anthony Herman, Josephine, Altoney, Armia, Frederick, and Agnes. He has filled the offices of supervisor and school director. His father was the first settler on section 30, and cut the first road through the section.
