Capt. A. G. Thornton


Today is the birthday anniversary of Capt. A. G. Thornton of 43 Park avenue west, who was born in Danville, Pa., Oct. 29, 1839. He has been a resident of Mansfield for the past twenty-seven years, having come here originally as leader of the opera house orchestra. He has been agent of the Mansfield Humane society since its organization in 1884 and has always taken an active interest in that work. Capt. Thornton served in the civil war, having enlisted in Col D. of the Eighty-fourth Pennsylvania Volunteer infantry as a private, being later promoted to sergeant, than to lieutenant and finally to captain. He was in fourteen of the principal battles of the war. He is a member of McLaughlin post, G. A. R.
