James Wilson
The subject of this sketch was a native of Greene county, Ohio, where he was born December 20, 1808. His parents were Valentine M. and Eleanor Judy Wilson.
He came to Madison in 1816, with his father. They settled first on Darby Plains, then in Deercreek. He was twice married, his first wife, Lucy Ballou, living only three months after the marriage. His second wife was Miss Eleanor Smith, whom he married three years later. To this union were born four children, John S., Valentine H., Thos. B. and Lucy E., the two latter still living.
Mr. Wilson was engaged in farming and stock raising. He acquired a large landed estate, and was prominent in all walks of life. He was a devout Methodist, famed for his charity, honest, and agreeable personality. He died June 12, 1886, in his 78th year, full of honors, and beloved by all who ever knew him.
