E. S. Gordin

County Treasurer Gordin is a native of Clarke county, born in Bethel township, November 30, 1853. Moving to Madison county in 1859, he located in Stokes township, where as farmer and live stock dealer he remained until 1898 when he came to London, having in '97 been elected to the office of sheriff. He served two terms, and demonstrated his efficiency as a faithful official. During his incumbency Governor Nash appointed him special officer to go to London and Paris for a fugitive. He returned with his man. During the year 1902, Mr. Gordin became a partner in the livery and sales stable business of Burnham & Gordin, in which he has been very successful. An ardent Republican, and a worker for party success, he has ever been popular with his party, and in 1905, was elected county treasurer by the largest majority given a candidate. In the administration of this office he has shown a paintaking ability that has won the approval of all the people, and his renomination followed. His election in the fall by an increased vote is assured. Mr. Gordin stands high in the community and the conviction is general that he is the right man in the right place. He has served the people with distinction and fidelity in this and other positions of trust. He served as member of the school board while in Stokes, and also on the London board since coming here. In fraternal orders he is a prominent K. P.
