William Elkins
William Elkins is the son of Marvil and Nancy (Sharp) Elkins, who settled in this county in 1812; the former is deceased, and the latter died October 12, 1866, aged 82 years. William was born in Lawrence county April 26, 1823, and married in the same county, September 23, 1863, to Julia A. Brubaker, who is a native of this county, born January 10, 1835. Her father, Daniel Brubaker, was born July 8, 1791, and died June 24, 1868. Her mother, Margaret D. Brubaker, was born September 27, 1803, and died August 31, 1850. They came to this county in 1819. The following are the children of Mr. Elkins: Oscar M., born July 17, 1864, is attending school at Valparaiso, Indiana; William E., January 27, 1867, resides at home; Ella U. W., July 17, 1868, resides at home; Harriet A., February 10, 1871, died July 15, 1871; Minnie E., July 29, 1872, resides at home. Mrs. Elkins had three brothers in the war of 1861, Daniel, Abraham, and David T. Brubaker. All three enlisted in 1865 in the 188th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and were honorably discharged at the close of the war. The maternal grandfather of Mr. Elkins, Richard Sharp, was in the war of 1812. Perry township is where Mr. Elkins resides, and where he conducts a farm. His postoffice address is Sheridan Coal Works, Lawrence county, Ohio.
