William Betts
William Betts was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, in 1835, and removed to this county in 1848. He was married in Athens, Ohio, in 1866, to Addie M. Crawshaw, who is a native of Guernsey county, Ohio, born in 1842. Both of her parents are deceased. Thomas and Rebecca Betts are the parents of the subject of this sketch. They came to Lawrence county in 1848. Mr. Betts was a soldier in the war of the rebellion. He served as a private for three years in the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His brother, Samuel R. Betts, was a lieutenant in the 53d Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Mr. Betts has been county treasurer of Lawrence county for six years, and internal revenue officer for six years. He was an aid on the staff of Governor Thomas L. Young, with the rank of colonel. He was appointed postmaster of Ironton by President Hayes in October, 1880. He still holds the position.
