James E. Carr


James E. Carr, manager of the Toronto plant of Gill Bros. Company, the extensive glass manufacturers of Jefferson County, has occupied this important positiou since August, 1905. Mr. Carr was born at Allegheny, Pa., August 11, 1862, and is a son of John W. Carr.

Mr. Carr is a practical glass worker. He attended school until he was twelve years old and then came to Steubenville, Ohio, to live with an uncle, Frank Gillespie, and there entered the glass works of Beatty Bros., and later the works of Gill Bros. For seven years he was the executive member of the trade organization known as the Glass Workers' Union and had his headquarters at Coraopolis, Pa., and during a part of this time he was in the employ of the Consolidated Glass Company at that place. He came then to Toronto and has made investments here and is identified witli the general interests of the town.

Mr. Carr married Miss Mamie Mann. a daughter of Thomas F. Mann. Mrs. Carr was reared at Steubenville. Nine children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Carr, the eight survivors being: Thomas, James R., Lizzie May, Marie, Bessie, George, John and Mamie. Walter died when aged but four months.
