John C. Butte


John C. Butte, president of the Butte Laundry Company, Limited, is a substantial citizen of Steubenville, O., where he has a wide acquaintance and is held in high esteem. He was born in Germany, May 24, 1857, and was thirteen years of age at the time of his arrival in America.

Upon coming to this country John C. Butte located immediately in Steubenville, O., where he has resided ever since. He was for a time engaged in business on South Fourth Street, but for the past fourteen years his business location has been at No. 508 Market Street. In 1907 he organized the Butte Laundry Company, Limited, of which he is president; John C. Butte, Jr., secretary and treasurer; and F. A. Butte is general manager. Mr. Butte has taken a prominent part in the affairs of the city and has done his full share to aid in its material progress. He was elected to the Board of Public Service, on which he served ably for three years, a part of the time being vice president of the board. He has always been an active worker for the success of the Republican party, and has served on the Republican County Central Committee and on the City Committee.

John C. Butte was married May 6, 1880, to Miss Lena Persohn, who was born in Steubenville, and they have the following children: William P. Butte, of Los Angeles, Cal.; John C, Jr.; Frank A.; Phillipena; and Wilhelmina, wife of W. B. Melville, of Steubenville. Mr. Butte and wife are members of the Fifth Street German Lutheran Church. Fraternally, he is a member of Eureka Lodge, No. 35, K. P., of which lie has been treasurer a number of years; of the Germania Turuverein, which he joined in 1871, and of a number of other local societies.
