John Zimmerman
John Zimmerman (deceased) was born in Bind Sachsen, Germany, May 22, 1829, a son of Henry Zimmerman. He was reared in the fatherland to farming, which was his father's occupation, and there remained until eighteen years old, when with a married sister he came to America, and for one year lived in Adams County, Penn. He then moved to Wayne County, where he had another married sister, and in 1865 he came to Ripley Township, Holmes County, where he settled on forty acres of land owned by his father-in-law, and in June, 1872, he bought sixty-eight acres. He began his career a poor boy, first working by the day or month, and in this way got his start in life. He was married in 1853 to Mary, daughter of Jacob and Magdaline (Adenger) Schaaf, old settlers of Holmes County. To Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman were born two children, Jacob and John, latter of whom died at the age of eighteen years. Mr. Zimmerman died December 1, 1887; his widow still lives on the homestead.
Jacob Zimmerman, the only son now living, has followed the occupation of his father, and has now charge of the homestead farm. He was married in 1884 to Miss Emma, daughter of Jonathan and Fietta (Camp) Lebo, of Bucks County, Penn., and has two children: Cloys Ellis and Vera Blanche. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman are members of the Presbyterian Church; in politics he supports the Democratic party.
