Squire Purdy
Squire Purdy is a son of Sylvester Purdy, who was born in Wayne County, Penn., July 17, 1806, and when a young man came to Holmes County, entering the farm where he now resides. He married Miss Catherine Fry, a native of Lancaster County, Penn., whose paretns settled in Killbuck Township at an early day. He has served the township as justice of the peace six years, and has held various other offices, having been one of the prominent and influential citizens. He is a member of Black Creek Disciples Church. Eight of his children are still living: Delinda (wife of Jesse Bucey), in Richland Township; Mary (wife of Thomas Bedford), in Shreve, Wayne County; Elizabeth (wife of G. W. Knowles), in Richland Township; Loretta (wife of Milon Johnson), in California; Dorcas ( wife of John Patterson), in Richland Township; Jane (wife of Marion Carpenter), in Monroe Township; Harry, residence not know, and Squire.
The subject of these lines was born on his present homestead January 13, 1832, and received his education in the township schools. He has always followed farming, in which he has met with marked success. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Miss Amelia, daughter of Andrew J. Chapman, of Killbuck Township, and they have one child: Miland V. Mr. Purdy has always taken an active interest in public affairs, and has filled various township offices. He and family are members of the Disciples Church.
