George V. Castle


George V. Castle (Cassell) b. 1782; d. 1850. He was b. Frederick Co., Maryland and died in Butler Co., Ohio. He married on Dec. 4, 1805 to Catherine Horine. He was a private in Capt. James Neals 36th U.S. Infantry in the War of 1812. He enlisted in Frederick Co., Md. and was discharged at Baltimore,Md. He entered service Sept. 15, 1813 and was discharged Sept. 15, 1814. He served in regular infantry near Baltimore and Washington City; participated in Battle of Bladensbough. George V. and Catherine were married by Rev. Craven, minister. Catherine was b. 1789, Frederick Co., Md. and d. 1878 Cass Co., IN. They moved from Maryland to Hamilton Co., Ohio, then to Warren Co., Ohio, then to Butler Co., Ohio. They had:

        -John C. Castle (Cassell) b. March 29, 1807, Frederick Co., Md. went to Cass Co., IN in 1836 and entered land in Harrison Twp. He m. in Warren Co., Ohio Sarah Foffield on March 22, 1836. She was b. Jan. 9, 1818 to Arthur and Sarah (Eckles) Foffield. They had no children.

        -Mahala Castle (Cassell) b. Md. ca 1810, m. James Washington Linn b. 1810 in Butler Co., Ohio to James H. and Ella Skiles Linn, grandson of Adam and Jane I. Dickerson Linn, also of Butler Co., Ohio. The Linns had come to Butler Co., Ohio from Pa. in 1804. Adam was in Rev. War. Mahala Castle Linn and her husband went to Montgomery Co., Ind. in 1837. She d. 1850? They had:

                   -Isaac Linn b. 1831, twin of above

                   -Tobias Linn

                   -Katherine J. Linn b. 1833 in Ohio

                   -William Linn b. 1837 in Ohio

                   -Eliza Ann Linn b. 1842 in Indiana

                   -Sarah Ellen Linn b. 1843 in Indiana

                   -James W. Linn Jr. died in Indiana

                   -John W. Linn b. 1846

                   -Matilda Emmaline Linn b. 1850

        -Noah Castle (Cassell) b. 1813

        -Thomas Castle (Cassell) b. June 15, 1820 Warren Co., Ohio m. Mary Tucker. They also went to Montgomery Co., Ind. in 1837 but in 1839 moved to Cass Co., Indiana, Harrison Twp., Logansport. They had:

                        A CONNECTICUT CASTLE FAMILY

 From History of Ashtabula County, Ohio by Williams Brothers Amasa Castle, Jr., was born in Plymouth, Conn., April 5, 1786. Removed with her parents to Burlington, Vt., then in 1808 to "New Connecticut" to Ashtabula. The father Amasa Castle, Sr., was a Revolutionary soldier. The mother, Mary Stanley Castle was a direct descendant of the notable English Stanleys. Her father and two brothers were Rev. war soldiers -brother Frederick Stanley was one of Gen. Washington's aides-de-camp. Amasa Castle, Jr. in January, 1813, married Rosalinda Watrous, in Ashtabula County, Ohio, daughter of Capt. John Watrous who came here from Saybrook, Conn. in 1810, with wife and ten children. Amasa Castle, Jr. and Rosalinda had six children. Amasa Jr. died December 1870.
