John Shifferly
John Shifferly, brother of Jacob and Barbara, was born at Degenfelden, Switzerland, May 28, 1819. His parents, Jacob and Barbara Shifferly, came to America in 1833, and settled in Allen County in 1836. His wife is a daughter of Jacob and Mary Schwartz, who came from Wurtemburg, Germany, to Pennsylvania, in 1847. They afterwards removed from Pennsylvania to Hancock County, Ohio. Mrs. S. was born in the village of Fehringen, Wurtemburg, on the 21st Oct. 1829. She is one of seven children--Christina, John, Eva, Jacob, Frederick, Mary and William. Mr. and Mrs. John Shifferly have eight children living--Gideon, John, Jacob, Mary, William, Frederick, Sarah and Margaret,--and three dead, Jacob, Mary Ann and William. Mr. S. has held the office of Supervisor and School Director.
