Charles Crites
Charles Crites, son of John Daniel and Catharine, was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, July 25, 1809. In 1812 his parents removed to Pickaway County, Ohio, where Charles learned the trade of blacksmithing and acquired the elementary principles of an English education, although he never had any of the advantages of a common school. From 1843 to 1849 he held the office of Justice of the Peace. He served two terms (1852-1862) as District Land Appraiser. He was Representative in the State Legislature in 1853-4. From 1849 to 1874 he took out letters of administration for seventeen different estates. He has also held various township offices. Mr. Crites married Sophia, daughter of Jacob and Mary Ludwig. She was born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, July 14, 1813. Their children are Daniel L., Jacob S., Catharine, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Cyrus and Elias, Emanuel, Mary Ellen, George W., and Frederick S.
