John S. Rhoades


John S. Rhoades was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, December 6, 1823. He is a son of John and Catharine Rhoades, who were natives of Virginia. He received a common school education. He has made farming his principal business. He has resided on the same farm the past thirty-live years. In January, 1845, he married Miss Elizabeth Rhidenour, who was born in Maryland, and came to Montgomery County with her parents, George and Susan Rhidenour. In 1847 Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades came to Shelby County, purchased, and settled on the farm in Loramie Township, on which they now reside. They have a family of seven children, viz., Lewis, Ann, Lydia, Harriett, Catharine, Emma, and Levi. Mr. Rhoades it now filling the office of township trustee, and he has occupied the position of local director for school district No. 5, for the past six years.
