Jacob Metz


Jacob Metz, deceased, was born in Alsace, France, in 1796. He married Miss Catharine Elsass, in 1818, who was born in Alsace, France, in 1799. Mr and Mrs. Metz, with six children, emigrated to America in 1840, and located in Stark County, Ohio, remained until 1849, when they came to Shelby County, purchased and settled on the west half of section 34, Jackson Township, joining on the Auglaize County line, on which they lived until 1862, when they moved on the farm in section 5 with their son Jacob, with whom they made their home until death took them away. Mr. Metz died February 26, 1864. His companion died January 16, 1879. He made farming his vocation. He reared a family of six children, viz., Philip, Christian, Catharine, Sophia, Elizabeth, and Jacob.
