Jacob Leapley


Jacob Leapley, deceased, a soldier of the war of 1812 and a native of Maryland, was born on the 3d day of June, 1790. His minority was spent on a farm. In 1811 he moved to Virginia and remained there about nineteen years, when he came to Ohio, and located in Montgomery County, where on the 21st day of February, 1833, he married Miss Louisa Potts, of Miami County, Ohio, born March 1, 1808, daughter of James and Mary Potts. Mr. and Mrs. Leapley settled in Montgomery County, and remained there one year. In March, 1834, they came to Shelby County and located on the farm now occupied by Esquire Ludlum, on which they lived four years as tenants. In 1838 he made improvements and moved his family on the farm now owned by William West, in section 11. He died April 7, 1860, at the age of seventy years. His wife is now residing in Sidney at the advanced age of seventy-four years. They reared a family of seven children, viz., Daniel, Mary E., William R., Elizabeth J., Otho H., Thomas O., and Daisy, all of whom are still living.
