Joseph Holden


Joseph Holden (deceased) was born in Massachusetts December 14, 1801, son of Levi and Mary Holden, who died in Massachusetts. Our subject came to this county in 1830, and in September of that year was married to Electa Witherell, born in Massachusetts March 23, 1806, daughter of John and Hannah Witherell, who remained in Massachusetts until the former's death in 1814, when his widow came to this county and remained with Mr. and Mrs. Holden until her death, March 22, 1856. Mr. and Mrs. Holden have had ten children, eight of whom are now living: Charles H., John A., Edwin, George W., William A.., Francis, Emma B. and Gilbert L. The deceased are Joseph D. and Anna E, Our subject was a farmer, and at one time owned 1,000 acres of land in this county, but at the time of his death only the farm where his widow and daughter reside. He died in Rootstown Township August 16, 1879, leaving his family and numerous friends to mourn his loss.
