The Emrick Family


Four Brothers...Michael, William, John, and Christopher. Michael, the oldest, came to this valley in 1806, when about fifty years of age. Two of his children, Mrs. John Stump and Mrs. John Stoever, are still living (1883). Michael was born Feb. 10, 1756, died October 14, 1820.

William Emrick came here in 1804...he reared a numerous family...born July 1 1761 died February 10, 1842.

John Emrick came out in 1804, was never married and lived in the family of his brother, Christopher...John is said to have possessed many pecularities. He was fond of music and dancing, and very sociable and companionable. He was next to William in age and died in his 80th year.

Christopher Emrick was the youngest, came here in 1804, and settled on land in Shawnee Creek, adjoining the village of Sunsbury (As late as 1804...the Shawnee had a town o Shawnee Creek). three of his children, William, Mrs. Christian Exhel-man and Mrs. Christian Rohrer, are still living (1883). Christopher, was born January 23 1771, died January 26, 1837. All four Emrick brothers were natives of Berks County, PA, members of the Lutheran Church and founders of the congregation in Germantown.

George Emrick "was a distant relative of the above, a native of Dauphin County, PA, and came here about 1810"...His mother, who came with him to Ohio and who and who died here in her ninetieth year, had been an Indian captive. She and her father and an older sister (Mrs. Catherine Schaeffer) were made captives...George Emrick was married twice, had children by both marriages...born October 17, 1789, died April 2, 1859.
