Christian Young

Christian Young (deceased) was born in Alsace, Germany, where he was reared, and when eighteen years of age, with his mother and two sisters, came to America, first settling near Canton, Ohio, where they bought forty acres of land, and there they lived eight years.

He then came to Homes County, and settled in Washington Township, where he entered 160 acres of Government land, for which he paid $1.25 an acre, and which at that time was covered with timber. This he cleared and improved, and at his death he owned one of the best farms in the township.

Mr. Young was twice married. His first wife was Kate Clouse, and to them were born four children. His second wife, who survives him, was Miss Rosanna Muchler, who is a native of Germany, a daughter of Jacob Muchler, and was eleven years old when her parents came to America. To this second marriage were born eleven children, all of whom are living, one daughter and two sons being on the homestead with their mother. Mr. Young was a Democrat in politics. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church; Mrs. Young being also a member of that denomination.
