G. B. Omer

G. B. Orner was born in Adams County, Penn., in 1822, a son of Philip and Sarah (Balsby) Orner, former of whom was a shoemaker by occupation. Of a family of twelve children, ten are living. G. B. learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed sixteen years, and then for four years was in mercantile business. In 1845 he came to Ohio and settled in Holmes County. He then lived in Wayne County two years; then went to Kansas, and three years later returned to Holmes County, where he has since lived. He now owns a small farm, and also valuable town property.

Mr. Orner was married in 1844 to Harriet, daughter of David Smetzer, of Franklin County, Penn., and to them have been born three children: Saran Ann (Mrs. Glasgow, deceased), Mary Ann, and Mrs. Joseph Liggett. Mr and Mrs. Orner are members of the Disciples Church; in politics he is a Democrat.
