Nelson Hayes


Nelson Hayes was born in Essex County, New York, Jan. 12, 1809, came to Allen County in 1840, and settled on the farm now occupied by him. His wife was Sally Jones, daughter of Alanson and Rhoda (Slater) Jones. She was born in Essex County, New York, July 20, 1808, and died on the old homestead in Allen County, Oct. 21, 1842. They have five children--Alexis P., Juliette C., Clarinda E., Russell J. and Isaac B. Mr. Hayes' parents removed to Allen County in 1844. Their children are Rhoda, Alanson, Flavilla, Nelson, Enos, David, Milo, Ann and Rosetta. Mrs. Hayes' parents died in Essex County, New York. They had ten children--Russell, Sarah, William, Harry, Bushrod, Permelia, Eunice, Ann, Van Rensselaer and Charles. Mr. Hayes was Township Clerk three years.
